Book Review - Claimed by Daddy by Vanessa Brooks

What would you do if you suddenly found yourself transported to a parallel universe where everything was different? You have a different home, different job and instead of being single, you discover you are actually married to a sexy tall American guy who shares all your kinky preferences?

To be honest I would probably behave exactly the same as Penny West, the heroine of Vanessa Brooks' Claimed by Daddy when this happens to her: whirling through a merry-go-round of emotions including incredulity, fear, panic and - what with the sexy 'new' husband - lustful abandonment.

Given such an outlandish premise, it's really rather relatable.

The book starts with Penny flying back from New York to London. The plane is caught in turbulence, she blacks out and then suddenly everything has changed. Well, not everything. She is still herself. Her face is the same, her family history is (almost) the same but suddenly she is in the middle of a life that she has no memory of.

Time slips are a tricky business. To everyone around her, Penny's story seems wildly implausible. To everyone else, including her husband, she looks like the same person doing the same thing as she always done. But to Penny, it must feel like starting a movie halfway though with no memory of how the first half went.

Finding yourself a sexy husband who likes to practise Domestic Discipline and calls himself Daddy has its benefits, that's for sure. David, the books hero, is pretty damned perfect, make no mistake about it. But it's hard for Penny to get onboard with the situation when she not only has no memories of meeting and marrying him but also has her own perfectly clear memories of living a completely different life during that time period.

Luckily Penny has the support and acceptance of not only David, but also her sister, her sister's partner and her Dad (who is actually dead in her own timeline). Once they are onboard, it becomes possible for Penny to accept her situation and focus on adjusting to her new reality.

Note, in neither of the universes in Claimed by Daddy, are any of the characters "ape-like beings".

And it's a pretty amazing alternative reality that she finds herself in. She and David are clearly not short of a few quid, they run a successful business together and own a fancy house in an expensive part of London. Alternative-Reality Penny has the Submissive/Little lifestyle that Protagonist Penny had only ever dreamed of. She has her own special playspace and everything that a Little could wish for. And she has a husband who absolutely adores her.

Except there's the problem. David adores his Penny. The one he married, the one with whom he has five years of shared history. Can he accept this interloper who doesn't know anything about it, has no recollection of their wedding day, their favourite restaurants, their shared experiences and their in-jokes?

Can Penny allow herself to love David knowing that simultaneously she both is and isn't the woman he loves?

Well, happily, they have a jolly lovely time of it finding out. The sex and spanking scenes in this book are absolutely delicious. Poor David has to adjust to a role which is outside any expectations that he might have had when he signed up for life as a Daddy Dom. That of negotiating a relationship with a woman who is both the person he knows both inside and out and who is also, in every meaningful way, a complete stranger that he needs to woo all over again. Given that Penny is physically exactly the same as his Penny, it does make it a lot more straightforward for him to give her the most earth shatteringly amazing orgasm that she has ever experienced. He literally knows which buttons to press.

Kind of like this.

They don't just stop at the one earth shattering orgasm obviously. There's lots of that sort of thing.  Penny gets a very thorough lesson in everything that she has been hitherto missing out on.

There is a strong age-play element to this story. But there is also a lot of grown-up Dom/sub stuff as well. David and Penny draw a distinction between their age-play and their grown-up time. David actually tells Penny off at one point for using her "little voice" in the bedroom.

I wouldn't describe myself as a Little (although there is definitely a Daddy Dom dynamic in my relationship with Gentleman Friend even though we would never use the actual 'D word'.) I quite like Penny's little lifestyle though. I'm quite jealous of all the Disney stuff she has, for one thing.

I would be quite happy with a bedroom like this.

Claimed by Daddy is a highly original take on the Daddy/little genre. Cuddles, spanking, sex and the multiverse Many-Worlds Interpretation of Quantum Mechanics. It's got it all!

I really, really hope that Vanessa Brooks writes a companion book to this one telling the story of the Other Penny who switches lives with our Penny at the start of the book. What does she do when she suddenly finds herself in a universe where she never met David? As Penny says to David, "I honestly believe that she would try to find you." I think so too. How do you persuade a man who has never met you that he's actually your tried-and-tested perfect Daddy Dom? Sneaky seduction or just fling yourself over his lap and be done with it? It would be great fun finding out.

Book Review - Daddy's Sassy Little Superhero by Adaline Raine

Daddy's Sassy Little Superhero

Sometimes, it turns out, making one seemingly small decision will have repercussions that will affect your life forever. That's certainly the case for Caitlyn, the heroine of Adaline Raine's sweet spanky superhero romance, Daddy's Sassy Little Superhero.

Like Maren Smith's Daddy Shark which I reviewed last week, this story was originally one of seven books released as the Super Daddies collection. They're all great and now all being re-released as separate books.

In Caitlyn's case, the whole life-changing-out-of-all-recognition thing isn't all that bad, given that her life wasn't all that great before the events at the beginning of this story. Caitlyn works at a pizzeria and is told to deliver a pizza to Devil's Park, a notorious criminal black spot. She entirely fails to deliver the pizza but does manage to rescue a woman from the city's most powerful villain by suddenly discovering hitherto dormant super-strength super-powers.

This sort of thing happens

Using your powers for the first time takes a lot out of a girl and after squashing guns and throwing bad guys around, Caitlyn collapses. So it's lucky for her that there's a masked vigilante waiting in the wings ready to rescue her when she collapses.

Our masked man is Kade, he's another super-sort. He takes the comatose Caitlyn back to his house and very sweetly nurses her back to health for a few days.

Cait regains consciousness (which is handy because conscious characters are always better for plot development. She and Kade have a lot to talk about especially after he forbids her to leave his house for her own safety. It doesn't stop her trying, of course, but happily, Kade is on hand to provide her with physical punishment and sexy forms of persuasion.

Kade can spank her with gay abandon because although Caitlyn has super-strength, she doesn't seem to have super-high-pain-threshold. She injures herself at one point by thumping her own leg a little too enthusiastically. I imagine that's a bit of a drawback when it comes to fighting bad guys. She can dish it out but she literally can't take it.

Not that we really have much of a chance to see Caitlyn's super-powers in action. The structure of this book is a little odd. Most of the book consists of Kade and Caitlyn hiding in Kade's fancy residence avoiding trouble. Which is a good thing in lots of ways because it gives our two heroes lots of time to get to know - and fall in love - with one another. Lots of sexy spanks and spanky sex ensues.

But - SPOILERS ahoy! - as soon as a bit of action is introduced and our pair leap into super-heroic action, the book just sort of ... stops. So much is unresolved. The characters are still fleeing for their lives and that's all we get. A quick reassurance that everything will probably be OK. Perhaps, Adaline Raine is setting us up for future instalments but ending the story during one of the book's only action scenes, just seems weird.

That said, it's a great book. The characters are well drawn. Caitlyn has frankly dangerous levels of low self-esteem and Kade is just the man to help her belief in herself. Often by having her writing lines and bending over to get her bottom spanked. You can't fault his methods, they work beautifully.

Book Review - Daddy Shark by Maren Smith

He's not actually that big. That'd be impractical.

There are some superhero powers which really lend themselves to being a Daddy Dom. Super strength would be a great one. Or mind-reading. Kinda turning into a shark, though? Hmmm, not so much.

Shark-like transformation, though, is the super-power that Daddy Shark’s hero Ommin has been blessed with. The poor lad has spent a lifetime not feeling comfortable in his (sometimes shark-like) skin and has hidden away rather than embracing his magical fish powers.

This is not what Ommin looks like.

Happily, as our story starts, Ommin bravely – and very publicly – saves a man’s life and suddenly everybody wants to know all about him. This brings him into the path of the very delightful Britney, a junior reporter on a local radio station.

There is a lot of wonderfully written Dommy sex ‘n’ spanks in this book. Maren Smith is very good at this sort of thing. Ommin’s expert Domming skills are even more impressive given that at the start of the book, he is a complete novice in all things BDSM. He’s obviously a natural at it though. It turns out that fish transformation isn’t Ommin’s only super-power.

Nor is this.

For all its outlandish superhero antics (and I haven’t even mentioned Ommin’s friend Liquidman yet), this book actually provides one of the most down-to-earth and realistic depictions of someone learning about the BDSM lifestyle.

Inspired by a tell-tale indicator of Britney’s kinky preferences, Ommin takes to the internet to do some research. This might be the first erotic novel I’ve read that directly references Fetlife. (And I’ve read hundreds of the things, believe me.) Maren Smith also cheekily throws in references to fellow authors like Allysa Hart, Rayanna Jamison and Maggie Ryan, whose book blurbs Ommin uses as part of his research.

What the dickens is going on with this one's legs? No wonder he's cross.

The romance between Ommin and Britney ignites quickly and soars like a rocket. They are clearly a very good fit for one another. The chemistry between the two is beautifully drawn and the dialogue is very, very funny. Supporting character Jim (the aforementioned Liquidman) is a brilliant addition to the cast. Every scene he is in is hilarious.

Of course, this is a superhero story. And inevitably, Ommin and Britney’s D/s time gets interrupted more than they’d like by “Superhero needed to save the day”-type business. Goes with the territory, you see. Throughout the book, Ommin really grows into his role. He transforms from hermit-like self-conscious ‘freak’ to super-cool confident day-saver. This is in no small way down to Britney’s encouragement and support.

This is absolutely the last Manshark picture. I promise.

You know that he will save the day. You don’t mess with the Sharkman. Or his sassy little submissive.

Super Daddies!

I'm all about promoting a new anthology series, "Super Daddies" today. A collection of novellas which includes a story from Rayanna Jamison and Allysa Hart whose new book series, "Daddy of the Month Club", I was excitedly reviewing a couple of days ago.

There are also stories by a whole bunch of other great authors including site favourite Maren Smith.

I always seem to be slow up on the uptake when it comes to stuff. Never there at the beginning when it comes to books and television. I didn’t start reading the Harry Potter series until the release of The Goblet of Fire, didn’t get into Breaking Bad until the whole thing had been already wrapped and finished. I still haven’t seen a single episode of Game of Thrones.

And clearly it’s the same thing all over again with the Daddy of the Month Club. The series began in March this year but I’ve only just found out about it. Four months late to the party. There is a new story in the series published every month so I have a lot of catching up to do.

The first story in the series, Good Luck Daddy, is absolutely wonderful. It’s a tricky subject for what has been styled as a Rom Com series as it deals extensively with bereavement.  Austin Whittle was Jasper’s best friend and Keely’s big brother. After he is killed in combat, Jasper and Keely find themselves the remaining two survivors of the little ersatz family that the three of them had maintained since the death of Keely and Austin’s parents.

Keely has always been like a little sister to Jasper. Except that now Keely is all grown-up and Jasper’s feeling towards her have become rather more romantic – and, well, sexual. Which is all perfectly hunky dory because Keely feels exactly the same way about Jasper.

So we have two attractive, sexually frustrated individuals in love with one another currently sleeping under the same roof. What possible obstacle could be getting in their way and stopping the inevitable Happy Ever After happening round about page 6?

Jasper’s bloody stupid Code of Honour, that’s what. The damn fool is too bloody busy mithering over the ethics of fucking his dead friend’s sister that he comes very close to mucking the whole thing up. Repeatedly.

I mean, it doesn’t stop him breaking this self-imposed ‘Bro Code’ and enjoying some delightfully Dommy sex ‘n’ spanks with Keely. But then he gets all funny about it afterwards. It’s a wonder Keely put up with his nonsense, really.

Despite the sadness that runs through the book, this is a very funny story. The chapter titles are hilarious, the "Pants-Off-Off" scenes are a delight to read and the verbal sparring between the two heroes is both witty and authentic-sounding.

There is also the wonderful Book Club that Keely belongs to. Everybody needs a book club like this! Well, me at least. I need a book club like this. A place for women to get together, eat food and talk about smutty fiction. Sounds like exactly my cup of tea.

Not sure which Daddy this is. I think this is Fantasy Book Daddy.

There is also a Prequel , Daddy of the Month Club. (Currently free on Amazon!) I would recommend that you read this before you read Good Luck Daddy rather than afterwards like I did.

There are twelve women in the book club so it’s a little hard to keep track of them all on this the first introduction but as each story in this series concentrates on a different member of the group, I expect to get to know them better soon enough. The second book, Fool Me Daddy is already purchased and on my kindle. I can’t wait to immerse myself in the funny, sexy world of the Daddy Doms.
